    Core Responsibilities: Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Planning & Permitting, this position is responsible for providing environmental planning and permitting support to the Environment & Permitting team in the execution of the Coastal GasLink Project in British Columbia. This role identifies and advises on the management of environmental risks and key issues affecting the Project as well as is responsible to propose, negotiate and implement solutions. 

    Key Functions: The role is responsible for developing and executing permitting strategies; providing support and technical expertise to senior environmental advisors and project team members; providing coordination and oversight of third party contractors and technical consultant deliverables; and supporting execution tasks to ensure that the Coastal GasLink Project is planned, developed and constructed in compliance with corporate environmental policies, procedures, regulatory commitments and permit conditions, and asset management objectives. 

    Collaboration: This position will work extensively with external groups including regulatory agencies, Aboriginal peoples, communities and landowners, as well as internal multi-disciplinary project teams. 

    Decision Making: Requires mature knowledge of pipeline construction methods, regulatory requirements (BC) and associated environmental management measures. Active decision making and problem solving is required to direct Environmental Inspectors and advise field personnel in the implementation of effective environmental protection measures. Problem solving involves risk assessment, management and communication of practical approaches to problems and resolution of conflicts. 

    Duties: Is considered a fully qualified environmental professional who requires limited supervision to execute of duties assigned. Provides technical support to key internal groups responsible for land, community relations, Indigenous relations, regulatory, legal, and safety to identify and resolve issues, develop and implement project execution plans and schedules, and support the integration of environmental standards appropriately into project planning; maintains overview of broad project objectives and direction and reassesses and charts new courses, negotiates consultants' work scope, budget and schedule; provides ongoing management of consultants' work and budget; identifies and works with internal teams to resolve environmental legal or process issues; provides quality assurance of technical and administrative documents; assists with the development, implementation and compliance of department and corporate processes and procedures. Can be requested to supervise junior environmental staff.
