Environmental Planner - Calgary, ABCalgary, AB, Canada
Core Responsibilities: Evaluate and monitor health and safety hazards and develop strategies to control risks in the workplace, to ensure compliance with government regulations. Developing and executing environmental strategies; supporting and mentoring internal staff; directing and overseeing technical consultants; providing support and technical advice to project managers, and project team members; executing quality control procedures; and ensuring that projects are planned, developed and constructed within corporate environmental policies and asset management objectives. Decision Making: Provides recommendations on technical or complex issues, without formal guidelines or precedents and exercises resourcefulness and ingenuity to interpret policy and arrive at solutions. Provides environmental and regulatory knowledge to development, acquisition and construction project teams throughout all facility and energy project phases. Provides direction to external contractors and business partners to ensure overall corporate and project objectives are met. Duties: Is considered a fully qualified environmental professional that requires limited supervision to execute assigned duties. Provides technical support to key internal groups responsible for land, community relations, Indigenous Relations, regulatory, legal, and safety to identify and resolve issues, develop and implement project execution plans and schedules, and support the integration of environmental standards appropriately into project planning; maintains overview of broad project objectives and direction and reassesses and charts new courses as applicable; negotiates consultants' work scope, budget and schedule; provides ongoing management of consultants' work; identifies and works with internal teams to resolve environmental legal or process issues. Experience: Previous permitting experience in Ontario and at a federal level CEAA(IAA) or NEB (CER) would be considered an asset. Some power or transmission experience is preferred.
